When the world wearies and society ceases to satisfy, there is always the garden
~ Minnie Aumonier
The Garden at Manor Farm is the best place to unwind; private, peaceful and full of wildlife. Even on the greyest of days when you might be feeling less than inspired a “walk in the garden” is wonderfully therapeutic
The walls that form the boundary of the garden date from the 17th Century and we believe that our Little Owls apple tree may well be 250 years old - the sole remnant of an Orchard that existed up until the early 20th Century. We know very little of the history of the garden but believe that the traditional use would have been mainly to produce food and cider for the farm.
We have spent the last 5 years gradually designing the garden to reflect some of this tradition; re introducing a productive Kitchen Garden and Cutting Patch and new Herbaceous Borders. Our next project is to plant an area of fruit trees on the site of the old Orchard and also a small Nuttery. This will provide the perfect environment for a beehive and give Richard the chance to revisit his beekeeping skills.
We have a small flock of free range traditional breed chickens that provide the eggs for the house and are a constant source of amusement. We will be happy to introduce you to some real characters!
Guests are free to enjoy the garden and wander across the fields to the river Ebble and enjoy the wildlife and fresh air.
At night you can hear our resident barn owls and little owl.
The Walled Garden is wonderful, and makes any stay here very special.
How fair is a garden amid the trials and passions of existence
~ Benjamin Disraeli
